When zombies are too close for safe firearm use, melee attacks and kicks can also be helpful. The trick is to not use the same attack style for the whole run.
Don’t wait until the battlefield has already been overwhelmed to think about defense. Barricades and roadblocks can assist in controlling the direction zombies come from and provide you with more time to fight.
Instead of positioning protective items at random, use them to shape the battlefield. A safer space means you can focus your attacks and not get flanked.
