You are thrown into a small arena in the Blockader game, where danger may come from both within and outside the ring, and enemy waves are constantly increasing in strength.
Blockader is a fast-paced 2D roguelite arena survival shooter that focuses on mobility, surviving waves, and character advancement. You are within a ring, and melee foes are coming at you from all angles, while a Sniper is shooting at you from outside. Your gun shoots automatically at the closest danger; therefore, the main obstacle is dodging collisions and incoming fire.
If you are struck, you lose a life, and if you lose all your lives, your run ends. But each victorious wave gives you a chance to get stronger, so every choice between fights becomes part of your long-term survival strategy.
There are six playable characters: Lucky, Byte, Spark, Orbit, Sludge, and Spike. Lucky is the default; the others are other playstyles to try out.
Switching characters might vary your approach to the arena. You can try different character skills and build options to find what matches your movement and survival patterns, instead of using the same approach all the time.
You don’t have to target any specific enemy. Just get into a position where you can escape danger and let your weapon do the firing.
Killing adversaries and accumulating stars unlocks upgrade cards that define the remainder of your run. There are more than 100 upgrade cards in the game spanning four different rarities, so there are many conceivable combinations as you go through the game.
You can’t judge an improvement by its single effect. Consider how it will coordinate with what you currently own. Offensive improvements may help you clear out threats more rapidly, while defensive or utility upgrades might provide greater flexibility in a crowded battlefield.
Stars may also be used for offensive, defensive, and utility gear. The skill tree is another avenue of growth where you may unlock your favored talents and branches.
The Blockader game mixes basic movement with ever more difficult considerations.
